2024 Reads - First Quarter, Part 2

The next few reads for the year were differently than expected.

I have started using a rating system, based off of Goodreads’ 5-star rating system, when discussing books with others.
1-star — did not enjoy, do not recommend
2-star — partially enjoyed, but would not recommend
3-star — enjoyed, would recommend to others based on interests
4-star or 5-star — greatly enjoyed, would definitely recommend

Have you had the chance to read for pleasure yet this year? Do you used Goodreads or another social cataloguing website or app? Leave a comment letting me know what you’re currently reading, what you’d like to read next, or what you’d think I might like to read. I’m constantly looking for new reading material!

1. The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin - 3-star - This was another book I randomly picked off the shelf, just because I liked the title. It's a wholesome story about three strangers, how they meet, and how their lives forever change afterwards. I also enjoyed the interesting tidbits about beekeeping!

2. The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead - 3-star - This was my second book club read, a much better read than the first. The book follows two main characters who have entered Nickel Academy, a reform school. It's based off a reform school in Florida where abuse was uncovered during investigations. I fell into a rabbit hole reading about Dozier School and some of the investigations.

3. The Siren of Sussex by Mimi Matthews - 2-star - When picking up my holds from the library, I noticed this being a book club read for a senior book club. While I didn’t qualify to join the senior book club and finished the book, I probably will not continue the series. Do read if you like historical romance.
